In term 1 we learnt chemistry. The topics covered were mainly,Atomic Structure, periodic table and chemical bonding. I have always been weak in science, and I could not even understand the basics of these topics. I also did not revise much nor clarified my doubts, till a few days before the test. I tried desperately to learn all the topics taught basically from scratch, reading books, notes, asking friends, but did not manage to get very far, and ended up failing very badly. After that, i decided to buck up on my science and stop dreaming in class, so i started going for science tuitions and attempted to pay more attention during lessons.
In term 2 we learnt physics. The topics covered were optics, reflection and refraction, and lenses and its applications. I could understand more concepts pertaining to physics compared to chemistry, and it was easier for me to learning as well, as it mainly involved drawing and simple concepts, not like physics which requires us to memories lots of information such as the charges of atoms, etc. I was quite confident for the physics test, then we were informed that salt preparation would be included as one of the topics. I thought that it would not take up a lot of marks, so I only studied the basic concepts. I ended up scraping just a pass for the test due to the salt preparation component dragging me down. So, i decided to stop cutting corners, and work hard from the start during term 3.
Term 3
In term 3 we learnt biology. The topics covered were reproduction in plants and reproduction in humans. Although this was a topic which I had prior knowledge of due to the fact that the basic ideas, concepts and knowledge pertaining to these two topics have been covered in primary school, it still proved quite a challenge to me as I had already forgotten most of it. Biology has the most stuff to memorise among the three major branches of science. We had to memorise names, facts and functions of the various reproductive organs in both plants and humans which proved quite a challenge. I was once again quite confident of the biology topics, and although the topic of lens was also included in this terms test, I did not revise for it as I thought that I would be able to still remember the facts well. In the end i got a B4 despite it being an easy test as the lens component dragged me down a lot. I will continue to work hard and hopefully be able to obtain a distinction for the end of year examinations.
